Council

The City Council of the City of Myton is made up of six members; the Town Mayor and five council members.  All are elected by the residents of the City of Myton unless otherwise appointed due to vacancy. 

The powers and duties of the City Council  in the City of Myton are as follows:

  • Exercisees any executive or administrative power and performs or supervises the performance of any executive or administrative duty or function that:
    • has not been given to the mayor under Utah Code Annotated 10-3b-104; or
    • has been given to the mayor under Utah Code Annotated 10-3b-104 but is removed from the mayor under Utah Code Annotated 10-3b-104(1)(b)(i)(A); 
  • May:
    • Adopt an ordiance to remove or reinstate any power, duty, or function of the mayor under Utah Code Annotated 10-3b-104; and
    • adopt an ordinance delegating to the mayor any executive or administrative power, duty, or function tha the council has under Subsection (1)(a);
    • Appoint a manager to perform the executive and administrative duties or functions that the council by ordinance delegates to the manager;
    • Dismiss a manager appointed; 
    • Assign any and all council members, including the mayor, to supervise one or more administrative departments of the town; and
  • May not remove from the mayor or delegate to a manager appointed by the council:
    • any of the mayor's legislative or judicial powers or ceremonial functions;
    • the mayor's position as chair of the council; or
    • any ex officio position that the mayor holds.

The powers and duties of the City Council are generally legislative and judicial; but, as described above, members of the City Council can be assigned executive and administrative roles and responsibilities by a vote from the City Council.
